The shower is an everyday household item that many of us take for granted. A leaking or broken tap can be a major inconvenience, but fortunately repairing a shower tap can be easier than it looks.

Start by obtaining the necessary materials. These include replacement parts such as tap handles and washers, old cloths or rags, an adjustable wrench and a screwdriver.

Cut off the water supply to the bathroom area or to the whole house. Once the water supply has been switched off, turn on the taps and allow water to drain completely. Unscrew the tap by removing the screw on the handle.

Check whether the leakage is due to a worn or damage rubber washer, and check if loose tap parts could be the source of the problem. Replace the washer with a new one and tighten any loose parts.

Sometimes there may be a problem with the handle, showerhead, or the tap itself, so replace these as necessary. Test the shower tap by turning the water back on.
