Mould is common to many homes, and it can thrive in damp and humid areas – such as the bathroom – even where a rigorous cleaning routine is in place. Green or black mould is visually unappealing, and can be harmful for the health. Removing mould can require a degree of patience, but there are a number of different options available, including easy home recipes and store-bought solutions.

Home recipes

Home remedies with simple ingredients such as baking soda and vinegar can be effective against mould. Mix one part vinegar and two parts warm water, or make a thick paste with water and baking soda. Spray with a refillable spray bottle or apply the mixture to the mould-infested area with a sponge. Wipe off the baking soda if using the baking soda mix.

Time cleaner

A time cleaner can be installed in the shower to clean off the shower automatically. Set these for a preferred interval, such as every hour or 30 minutes. These are chemical based and available from stores.

Chemical sprays and cleaners

Use a chemical spray designed to fight mould by spraying it daily or after every use. Alternatively, use chemical cleaners to remove the mould. Sprinkle some cleaner on the area and scrub the area clean with a cleaning brush.
